Learning & the National Curriculum

MATHS / NUMERACY

Our Maths is taught daily in Year groups with  differentiated activities. We have weekly homework which is often consolidating the maths concepts covered that week. We aim that the children know their multiplication tables up to 1os by the time they leave us.

ENGLISH / LITERACY

Our English is taught daily in two differentiated groups. Throughout the year we cover a range of genres, often linked to our topic. We have group Guided Reading sessions twice weekly and a spelling lesson weekly. We have handwriting sessions and most of the children are expected to join their handwriting. Home reading is encouraged and rewarded with half termly raffles for treats.

TOPIC

Our current topic is ‘Scream Machine’ which means we are learning all about forces in Science. We have explored this theme through science experiments and exploring mechanics of K’nex and other construction equipment. We are excited to start building our own rollercoasters soon. We will be having our ‘Fablous Funfair’ at the end of term.
